So, for the last few days, Trinalith and I have been discussing a server setup we should have in order to be able to host our own dedicated servers. We had an extra machine and have turned it into a makeshift server platform while we iron out the longer term goal. The primary OS on the machine is Windows 7, and while this is great and all, we both know that there’s a lot of game servers that run a hell of a lot better under Linux. There was a moment where we nearly partitioned the drive to throw Linux on there, until I remembered what I’d done while at my last place of employment: take advantage of VirtualBox’s “Seamless mode” – so I put Linux Mint Debian in a virtual machine, set it up for seamless use, and voila! You can see the start of something beautiful in the screenshot to the right (click to enlarge).

As of this post, we have Evochron Mercenary more or less set up the way it is going to be in the future. Minecraft is also on there, but there are some things I want to do with it (mainly get CraftBukkit and toss Dynmap into it, as it was the most favorite plugin from when I last hosted an MC server). More game servers to come, we promise!

Forums are disabled until I find a better solution. I don’t like how they look, nor do I like how they’re handled within our system at this time. However, events can now be assigned to groups and still show up publicly, which is pretty nifty. Over the course of the next week or so, there will be a gallery for game screenshots as well as a “profile page” for each game that the PaleHorse crew take delight in. Right now, it looks like we don’t play any games, as we only have links to external profiles on our sidebar.

I hope you all find this theme easier to navigate than the last one!

I’m still trying to figure out how to get events to be group-specific. so far there doesn’t seem to be a way to move events either, once they’re created. This is kind of frustrating, but I’m sure I’ll get past it soon enough. Other than that, things are starting to come together beautifully here on our site. For now, you will need to request a new forum section, at least until I am able to get group forums working properly.

Thanks for all your help and patience guys!

While we all love and enjoy games, we don’t want to have them become an all consuming facet of our lives. I think that if we catch someone complaining about a lack of PaleHorse events/games we’ll ask three things.

Make suggestions to any complaints as we LOVE solutions, not whiners.

If you can’t follow the above, perhaps instead of whining simply ask for possible ideas from others.

If neither of the above is possible, and you can’t help but whine, please keep it in a portion of the forum we will have for dedicated whining (won’t be checked except for basic courtesy, ie excessive profanity, wrong threads, spam, idiots)

Sections that Tenach and I have discussed for the forums over time included:

General

Game Planning (Have a game meet you wanna advertise)

Pen and Paper games (Wizardspire, Shadowrun, DnD type)

Computer Games
